ULTRAFLEK TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

TROUBLE

CAUSE

SOLUTION

Holidays, Streaks, Uneven Appearance

Spray technique is inconsistent

Make sure strokes are overlapped by 50% Hold gun 18-24 inches from surface. Use cross strokes when necessary to even out surface.

Insufficient coverage

1.     Too far from surface

2.     Paint stroke too fast

3.      Insufficient material delivery

1.   Spray at correct distance, 18-24”

2.   Slow down paint stroke

3.    Adjust fluid and air pressures

Gun clogs up with plastic like material at beginning of new shoot.

Fluid hose was not properly cleaned between use and the residual material has filmed in the hose

Flush out the hose of residual film from the hose and start over. In the future make sure fluid hose is thoroughly cleaned after each application.

Material will not come out of the gun when triggered.

The fluid nozzle could be restricted or the two piece fluid needle may be improperly adjusted or could be loose.

Remove the fluid cap and remove any restrictions. Check the fluid needle to make sure it is properly adjusted.

Fingering, blobs, sputtering

The fan tip could be causing the material to finger or distort the spray pattern. Material may have dried on the inside or outside of the internal mix spray cap.

Cap must be periodically cleaned during spraying to avoid pattern distortion. This film skinning can happen on both outside and inside the cap and must be cleaned often throughout the shoot

Runs and sags

1.  Too high pot pressure / too low atomizing pressure

2.
Gun to close to surface

3.    Spray motion stopped before releasing.

4.     Improper stroke speed

5.      Humidity too high

6.      Paint & air temperature too cold

1.      Lower pot pressure; raise atomizing pressure.

2.      Hold gun further from surface

3.      Continue spray motion after trigger release.

4.      Stroke too slow. Move gun faster across surface.

5.      No higher than 50% humidity

6.      Warm material to 70°F. Air temperature 60°F-90°F

Material Blobs or spits on surface being sprayed

1.      Make sure tip is clean.

2.
Low on material

3.      Incorrect pressure settings

Blobs can be blotted up with a dry roller or a dry cotton rag. Areas with excessive particle concentrations can be altered by moving or removing the color particles.

Shinny Spots (flashing)

Improper substrate preparation

All mudding on the wall must be properly sealed. Joints, patching etc.

Touch Up

1.      Nicks or chips

2.      Less than 100 sq. ft. patch

1.      Artist brush for background and Fleck. Dry cotton rag to blot.

2.
Hopper gun for limited area spraying of Fleck Finish (call for details)
