NUMBER: (713) 686-8873 Date Prepared: January, 1998 _________________________________________________________________________________________________ SECTION 2. INGREDIENTS
B. NPCA: HAZARDOUS MATERIAL IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM HEALTH: 1 FLAMMABILITY: 0 REACTIVITY: 0
C. The precise composition of this mixture is proprietary information. A more complete disclosure package is available and will be provided to a physician or nurse in the event of a medical emergency. ______________________________________________________________________________ SECTION 3. PHYSICAL DATA
SECTION 4. FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA
FLASH POINT, AUTOIGNITION SYSTEM, UPPER AND LOWER EXPLOSIVE LIMITS (%); Aqueous system, not determined. EXTINGUISHING MEDIA: Use water fog, carbon dioxide, dry chemical, or all-purpose foam. SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective clothing to prevent contact with skin and eyes. Use water spray to keep fire-exposed containers cool. Clear fire area of unprotected personnel and isolate. UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS: Product does not burn until all the water has evaporated but it may spatter if the temperature exceeds the boiling point of water. Containers exposed to intense heat should be cooled with water to prevent vapor pressure which could result in container rupture. Container areas exposed to direct flame contact should be cooled with large quantities of water as needed to prevent weakening of container structure. Dried solids can burn giving of oxides of carbon and nitrogen.
______________________________________________________________________________ SECTION 5. REACTIVITY DATA
STABILITY: Stable
INCOMPATIBILITY: Avoid heat, sparks, flame, and contact with strong acids and oxidizing agents. Prevent vapor accumulation.
HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS: Burning can produce carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, and unidentified organic compounds.
HAZARDOUS POLYMERIZATION: Will not occur. ______________________________________________________________________________ SECTION 6. HEALTH HAZARD DATA
A. EXPOSURE LIMITS: OSHA Permissible Exposure Limit (PEL) and Threshold Limit Value (ACGIH): Not established.
B. EFFECTS OF ACUTE OVEREXPOSURE:
INGESTION: No evidence of adverse reactions from available information. INHALATION: Inhalation of vapors in a poorly ventilated area may be irritating to the eyes, mucous membranes, and respiratory tract and may produce symptoms of headache, nausea, and difficulty in breathing. SKIN CONTACT: May be harmful if absorbed through the skin EYE CONTACT: Vapor may cause irritation and temporary disturbance of vision. Liquid may produce irritation experienced as excess redness and swelling of the conjunctiva with chemical burns to the cornea.
C. EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES
INGESTION: Seek immediate medical help. INHALATION: Remove from exposure to fresh air and provide oxygen if breathing is difficult. Seek immediate medical help. EYE AND SKIN CONTACT: Immediately flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes while holding eyelid open. Seek medical help. Wash skin with soap and water. Remove and wash contaminated clothing before reuse. ______________________________________________________________________________ SECTION 7. PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFE HANDLING AND USE
STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE OF SPILL: Restrict area to only those personnel needed. Wear appropriate respirator and protective clothing. Eliminate all ignition sources. Handling equipment must be grounded to prevent sparking. Water fog may be useful in suppressing vapor. Shut off source of leak only if safe to do so. Dike and contain spill with sand, clay, or other suitable absorbent. Take up absorbed material and place in non-leaking containers for proper disposal.
WASTE DISPOSAL METHODS:
INCINERATE: Observe all federal, state, and local laws concerning health and environment.
PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN IN HANDLING AND STORING: Keep away from heat, sparks, and flame. Since empty container retains product residue, follow warnings even after container is emptied.
______________________________________________________________________________ SECTION 8. CONTROL MEASURES
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION: Avoid prolonged breathing of vapors. Use a NIOSH approved respirator to prevent overexposure. In accord with 29 CFR 1910.134 use either an atmosphere supplying respirator or an air purifying respirator for organic vapors.
VENTILATION: Use explosion proof ventilation as required to control vapor concentrations.
EYE AND SKIN PROTECTION: Safety goggles, impermeable gloves, and protective clothing should be worn. An impermeable apron or smock should be worn to minimize skin contact.
OTHER CONTROL MEASURES: A safety shower, an eye bath, and washing facilities should be available. Wash thoroughly after handling. Keep container closed when not in use.
SECTION 9. SPECIAL STORAGE AND HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
Keep liquid and vapor away from heat, sparks, and flame. Avoid breathing vapors in top of shipping containers. Keep containers closed. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin and clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling,. Ground and bond transfer equipment and containers. For industrial use only. Avoid contact with strong acids.
